SILVERDALE PAIR WIN FATHERS AND DAUGHTERS' EVENT
Lancashire county player Sarah Cousins and her father Ian Hunter proved a winning combination in a national Fathers and Daughters competition at the weekend. The Lancashire duo, returned a best gross of 113 in the inaugural 27-hole foursomes event held at Tadmarton Heath in Oxfordshire making the 384-mile round trip more than worthwhile.
The pair, who play at Silverdale Golf Club in Carnforth, finished just one shot clear of Scraptoft entrants Keith Springham and Helen Lowe with Larry Holder and Tilly Magill, from Bicester GC and Woburn respectively, third on 115.
Ian, a five handicapper, said: “Sarah found out about the competition and we decided to enter. It is the first time we have won anything together and it was a really good day. We will definitely be entering next year.”
Sarah, who is married to Silverdale club professional Alyn, plays off two and will represent Lancashire in the County Finals at Thorndon Park in Essex later this month/
The best net prize went to Peter and Gaby Curtis, from Goring and Streatley GC with a score of 106.25.
Ninety two golfers from 17 counties with handicaps ranging from +3 to 36 entered the tournament organised by Tadmarton member Barbara Round.
“Although there are numerous competitions for Fathers and Sons there was little or nothing for Fathers and Daughters,” said Barbara. “I really wanted to change that and give dads and daughters the opportunity to have fun together.
“I would like to thank everyone at Tadmarton Heath Golf Club for the tremendous support they have given to this new venture, the success of which has probably exceeded all our expectations.”
