WILDE, HENDERSON MAKE TOP TEN IN OLD DOMINION EVENT

Old Dominion University, Norfolk in Virginia had

two players in the top ten of  the Old Dominion

Intercollegiate at Kilmarlic Golf Club's par-72

course (6,559yd), Powells Point, North Carolina,

which finished on Tuesday.
Tom Wilde, pictured left, a 6ft 2in junior year student from Berkshire, tied for eighth place on 214 with improving scores of 74, 71 and 70, while Neil Henderson, pictured above, from North Berwick, in his fourth and final college year at ODU, shared 10th place on 216 with nine birdies spread over rounds of 71, 73 and 72.
A third ODU student from this side of the Atlantic, Garth McGee, a junior from Bangor near Belfast, shot 72, 76 and 73 for 221 which earned him a share of 33rd place.
Individual winner was Georgia's T J Mitchell who had rounds of 64, 70 and 67 for a total of 201 to win by two strokes.
Georgia (834) won the team title ahead of Liberty (837) with Old Dominion (870) third in a field of 18 teams.


PHELAN FADES IN FINAL ROUND OF ISLEWORTH

Kevin Phelan (North Florida Univesity) from Waterford, Ireland dropped out of the top five to finish T20 in a field of 75 after a six-over-par last round of 78 in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club, Windermere, Florida.
Phelan, pictured left, a contender for this year's GB and I Walker Cup team but omitted from the final selection - he flew over from Florida to play in one of the practice sessions at Royal Aberdeen, had opened the tournament with a pair of par-matching 72s over the long course of 7,544yd to be T5 after 36 holes.
Winner by eight shots was US Walker Cup player Jordan Spieth (Texas University) with scores of 65, 73 and 67 for 11-under-par 205.
Texas also won the team event by 26 shots from Louisiana State with North Florida (886) third of 15 teams.


OLIVER CARR MAKES TOP 20 AT SAN ANTONIO

Oliver Carr from Ulverston, a freshman student at Newman University, Wichita, Kansas, finished T15 in a field of 63 players at the Bruce Williams Memorial Invitational college tournament at The Dominion Country Club, San Antonio in Texas.
Oliver shot 76-72-78 for 10-over-par 226, finishing 17 shots behind the winner, Alex Carpenter (Abilene Christian University) who had rounds of 66, 70 and 73 for seven-under 209.
Interesting point about the Abilene Christian roster is that it contains three Carpenters from Little Rock, Arkansas. Alex and Adam are twins and freshman Luke is their younger brother.
Abilene Christian (874) won the team title from Northeastern State (879) and Incarnate Word (887) with Newman University (907) fourth of 10 teams.
