Daniel Thompsett, the Aboyne teenager who won both the North-east boys' match-play and stroke-play titles this past summer, has settled down very well and very quickly at Rocky Mountain College, Billings in Montana.
The 18-year-old - his birthday was in August - has played in four tournaments so far.
In his debut event on September 8-9, Daniel finished joint 15th on 158 (78-80) in the Yellowjacket Invitational.
In his second outing, the Carroll College Invitational, he tied for sixth place on 222 with scores of 77, 72 and 73.
Then came the Rocky Mountain Invitational in which he finished seventh with scores of 70-70-71 for 211.
In his latest college competition earlier this week - the Great Falls Invitational - Daniel tied for seventh place on 154 with scores of 74 and 80.
So four top 20 finishes, including three top 10s is a great start for him over there.
I thought they might get some hard winters in the Rocky Mountains with little golf to be played but, so far - mind you, it's "only" October - it's been very WARM.
"It's great out here and there have been record temperatures recently, touching 100F, " said Daniel who seems to be getting plenty of golf.
"After four tournaments I'm now ranked No 2 on the Rocky Mountain College golf roster."
Thompsett and the Rocky Mountain College golf team are in action again early next week, when they move out of Montana and across the border to the state of Idaho, Hayden to be precise for the North Idaho College Invitational.
That's followed on October 17-18 with another trip to Idaho, Lewiston this time, for the Lewis-Clark State Invitational.
And that's followed quickly by the Yegen Collegiate Cup at Yegen Golf Club which is in the Montana city of Billings which is "home" for Rocky Mountain College students.
That's on October 19 and 20.
Then there's a long break from competitive golf until March 19-20 ... which confirms my suspicions that the winters are tough on the Montana side of the Rocky Mountains which form the barrier with Canada to the north.
Daniel will keep us posted, I'm sure. I've asked him to send www.kirkwoodgolf.co.uk regular updates of his new life at Rocky Mountain College.
