Daniel Young from Perth, a student at Lynn University, Boca Raton in Florida, followed up a joint third in his last event by finishing fourth in a field of 75 at the NSU Shark Invitational men's college golf tournament at PGA National Golf Club, Palm Beach Garden in Florida.
Young had rounds of 75, 66 and 73 for a total of two-under-par 214 over a 6,868yd course. His second round was the lowest in the tournament.
He finished only three shots behind the winner, Simon Forsslund (Barry University) (70-70-71).
Ross Earnshaw from York, a student at Post University, Connecticut, finished joint 54th with scores of 80, 80 and 75. Post not such a strong line-up since their Scots players graduated.
Colin Robinson from Ayrshire, a student at John A Logan College, finished joint 18th in a field of 79 at the Skyhawk Classic at Paris Landing Golf Club, Buchanan in Tennessee. He had rounds of 74, 75 and 72 for a total of five-over-par 221 - 12 shots behind the winner, Jake Erikson (Southern Illinois (70-70-69).
John A Logan College (888) finished sixth of 12 behind team title winners Southern Illinois (860).
Other Scots in action over the past few days did not do so well. Mark Dickson from Edinburgh and Hopeman's Kyle Godsman, both students at South Carolina-Aiken, finished joint 56th and joint 65th respecitvely in a field of 90 at the Firestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club, Akron in Ohio.
Dickson totalled six-over-par 224 with rounds of 76, 71 and 77 while Godsman scored 79, 73 and 75 for 227. At least they can say they have played at one of the more famous golf clubs/courses in America.
Mac McClung (St Mary's, California) won by four with an 11-under-par total of 205 (71-66-68).
South Carolina-Aiken (890) finished 10th of 17 behind joint team champions Indiana and St Mary's, California (both 854). So not a good week for USCA who were highly ranked after their last performance.
Grant Forrest, last year's Scottish boys' match-play champion, tied for 30th place in a field of 84 at The Prestige at PGA West tournament at La Quinta, California.
Feature of this event was the high standard of scoring. Forrest finished with the highly creditable total of one-under-par 215 with scores of 72, 70 and 73 but the leading 32 players all finished under par for the 54 holes.
The winner, Cheng-Tsung Pa (Washington) had a 15-under-par total of 201 (69-67-65) to win by three.
Grant Forrest's team-mate, Alex Ching, No 1 in the San Diego golf roster, finished T3 with 71, 67 and 68 for a 10-under-par tally of 206. But Ching got no support (apart from Forrest, the next San Diego team players were placed T47, 81st and "did not finish") and San Diego (870) finished way down the team list at 14th of 16 behind winners Oregon (832). Even San Diego State did a lot better than San Diego, finishing fourth with 843.
There will be a lot of wounds to be licked down San Diego University way.
North-east boys champion Daniel Thompsett from Aboyne, a freshman student at Rocky Mountain College, Montana, finished joint 19th in a field of 23 at the North Idaho Invitational at Avondale Golf Club, Hayden Lake, Idaho.
Thompsett, who had been putting together a series of top-10 finishes in his early weeks at RMC, went off the boil in this one with scores of 82 and 81 for 19-over-par 163 - 23 shots behind the winner by six, team-mate Casey Faught (70-70) over a par-72 course of 6,573yd.
