JUDIE LEWIS INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION AT LA MANGA CHALLENGE
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Hampshire golfer Judie Lewis was crowned the individual champion of the hugely successful 2nd English Women’s Golf La Manga Club Challenge in Spain.
The Hockley golfer was recognised at the gala dinner, when the other prizewinners were also honoured. They included Kent’s Linda Berriman and Claire Green of Rochester and Cobham Park who won the four-ball, better-ball competition.
Judie, who plays off seven, won the 36-hole individual Stableford with a total of 63 points after two steady rounds on the North course. She was two points clear of last year’s winner, Carol Duncumb (Rothley Park) and Diane Pickersgill (Shooters Hill), and wins a 500-euro holiday voucher for the La Manga Club.
“I am absolutely thrilled, but winning a prize is just the icing on the cake,” said Judie.
“This week has been fantastic, we’ve had a wonderful time. The girls are all very friendly and it’s lovely to play golf with women like this – you become such good friends straight away.
“There’s a great mix of people and handicaps right across the board and we have had great fun. I can highly recommend it.”
The Challenge, which has attracted women golfers from all over the country, included four days of competition which ended with a four-ball, better-ball. Claire Green repeated her success of last year when, helped by new partner Linda Berriman, she again took first prize.
Earlier in the week, Claire and Linda joined Kent colleagues Kam Cheema and Carole Mathieson to win the team prize – just as they did last year.
The La Manga Club is EWGA’s official overseas partner.
