KATY McNICOLL'S ROLLER-COASTER 69 IN SPAIN

Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll came storming home in 31, including four birdies in a row, for a level-par 69 to be sharing third place at the end of the first round in the Spanish Banesto Women's Tour event at Sant Cugat, Barcelona today. Katy, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, had a little bit of everything in a roller-coaster round - an eagle 3 at the 18th, five birdies (sixth, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15), two double bogeys (first and 16th), and three bogeys (eighth, 10th, 11th) which left room for only seven par figures! Majorca-based Scot Lauren Mackin had a 72 (37-35) to be in joint 14th position. England's Tracey Boys is on the same 69 mark as Katy with halves of 35 and 34. Ireland's Tara Delaney is lying joint 21st on 74 (38-36) and England's Claire Louise Aitken had halves of 43-33 for a 75 and a share of 26th place. There are 38 players in the field.
