MARIE ALLEN WINS WPGA ORDER OF MERIT AFTER WPGA TITLE

FROM THE PGA WEBSITE
Marie Allen admitted she had achieved her clean sweep of goals for the year after topping the WPGA Order of Merit.
The Hertfordshire player added the title to the Glenmuir WPGA Professional Championship she won at The Belfry earlier in the year.
Allen finished joint second behind Wessex Golf Centre's Fern Grimshaw at the final WPGA One-Day Series event at Devon's Bigbury Golf Club.
Grimshaw shot a three-under-par round of 69 to win, while Allen, Tracy Loveys, playing on her home Bigbury course, and Laura Harvey (Darlington) were two shots back.
But that was enough to keep Allen at the top of the Order of Merit table for 2011 ahead of Grimshaw.
Hatfield-based Allen said: "I came away from the event wondering if I'd done enough to finish ahead of Fern overall.
"It was a long drive home and I was a bit unhappy because I thought I could have done better but once all the calculations had been done, I realised I was on top."
Allen took particular delight in victory after admitting she may not be able to compete in as many events next year due to work commitments with Masters Golf.
She added: "I wanted to do a clean sweep and if there was a year I was going to be able to achieve that, then this was it.
"I wanted to dominate this year. I'd been working hard all winter on my game and now I can say that I've been there and done it.
"I'm so pleased I was able to achieve my goals this year because I'm not sure I would have been able to do it next year although I will take part in the Glenmuir event again as I won't have to qualify."
Allen admitted that it was vital that anyone who stood a chance of topping the Order of Merit travelled to Devon for an event that had been postponed due to bad weather in September.
The final round was virtually a shoot-out with a string of players in with a chance of claiming the title.
Allen added: "If you wanted to win the Order of Merit, you had to be there and travel down for the event. It was frustrating because I would've done enough at Little Aston had that been the final round.
"But I wanted to go to Bigbury and was delighted with the outcome."
