SAMMY VASS AND KIRSTY CONDON DOING WELL IN AMERICA

US WOMEN'S COLLEGE NEWS FROM KEN CONDON
Sammy Vass from Tain, a student at Gardner-Webb University, North Carolina, was named the Big South Conference player of the week as a result of her second place finish in the Winthrop University Intercollegiate at Rock Hill County Club, South Carolina, earlier this month.
There are not many Scots-related players in the Big South Conference but they are making themselves known.
In the Wendy's Invitational at Coosaw Creek Country Club, Charleston, South Carolina, Kirsty Condon, pictured below, tied for 10th in a field of 86 at the Highlanders' autumn finale.
Paisley-born Kirsty (Radford University, Virginia) from Lincolnshire, made the top 10 despite dropping three shots over the last two holes.
She shot 74-76 for a 150 total, for which she received a player of the week nomination, leading the Highlanders (Radford's nickname) to finish in a tie for eighth with none other than Gardner-Webb University.
Sammy Vass, not to be out-done, recorded a hole in one at her second hole on the first day.
Sammy scored 75 and 80 for 155 and finished joint 23rd.
Individual winner after a card play-off was Natalie Schmett (Jacksonville) who tied with Allison Harper (Marshall) on 143. Natalie scored 71-72, Allison 70-73. The par-71 course measured 6,010yd.
Marshall (605) won the team title ahead of joint runners-up Stetson and UAB, both on 610. Gardner-Webb and Radford were joint eighth on 621 in a field of 16 teams.
The Highlanders return to competition at Kiawah Island, South Carolina on February 26.

LATER NEWS: Sammy Vass, pictured right, helped Gardner-Webb beat High Point in an inter-university women's stroke-play match at The Patriot Club at the quaintly-named South Carolina town/city of Ninety Six. Sammy finished fourth in a field of 16 players with a six-over-par 78 over a 6,025yd course.
Gardner-Webb beat High Point 310-320. Angela Jimenez (High Point) was the lowest scoring individual with a 73 - she finished three shots ahead of the field - but Gardner-Webb players filled the next three positions.
The match was played on Saturday, October 22.
