SIAN EVANS FINISHES JT 14th AT KIAWAH ISLAND

Gillingham's Sian Evans (East Tennessee State University), who will celebrate her 20th birthday on November 7, chalked up another top-20 finish in the Palmetto Intercollegiate which ended at Kiawah Island, South Carolina on Monday.
Past Kent county champion Sian, pictured above, didn't quite get to grips with the Oak Point course in the first round, which cost her 78 strokes, but she improved by leaps and bounds after that with a second-round 75 and an excellent two-under-par 70 in the last round over the par-72, 5907yd course.
Her total of seven-over-par 223 earned her joint 14th position, 14 strokes behind the winner by four, Fanny Cnops (University of North Carolina-Greensboro) who shot 70-7267 for seven-under 207.
Another East Tennessse State team member, 19-year-old freshman from Bangor, near Belfast, Kelsey Coey, pictured right, showed distinct promise for the second half of the college season and beyond by finishing joint 20th in the field of 96 with a total of 224, made up of 72-77-75.
Ami Storey (Kansas State) from the North-east of England finished joint 27th on 226 with scores of 75-79-72.
A third East Tennessee State team player from Britain, Lauren Smith, a senior from Cramlington, England, had scores of 82, 82 and 80 for a total of 244 which placed her joint 79th.
East Tennessee State (884) finished third in the team race behind UNCG (875) and Maryland (882). Kansas State (907) were joint sixth in a field of 18 teams.
