ANNE WALKER AND HER FIANCE ON THE JOHN MUIR TRAIL IN USA

She's one of the most successful women's college golf head coaches of the moment - and she's Scottish! Yes, it's Anne Walker who played out of Strathaven when she reached the Scottish girls' championship final in the late 1990s before losing to Vikki Laing who was on her record title run of four years in a row, writes Colin Farquharson
Anne and Vikki went off to have four successful years as players at the University of California-Berkeley. Anne stayed on as a member of the women's golf support team before, roughly three or four years ago she was appointed head women's golf coach at the University of California-Davis ... Davis is a city of Perth/Stirling proportions, says Anne, probably more Stirling than Perth because university life (30,000+ students) dominates the city of Davis.
Anne's US-Davis team recently scored a second victory of the 2011-2012 US college circuit.
But, more important news for all her friends here in Scotland is that is she getting married!
Anne Walker writes:
"Personally, things are very well here. I recently got engaged to a guy I met backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains a couple of years ago. We will be married next August close to where we met (I'm bugging Vikki Laing on a weekly basis about winning a tournament on the LET so that she can get her backside over here for the wedding!).
"His name is Chris Gundling and he is from Half Moon Bay, California. Chris is currently finishing his Doctoroate in Mechanical Engineering with the emphasis being on wind energy. He does play golf - that was a pre-requisite!
"We are extremely excited about our future and all that it may have in store. In the meantime, I am trying to convince him to wear a kilt on our wedding day!
"The picture above was taken on the trail we met on. It's the 210 mile long John Muir Trail from Yosemite Valley Floor to the highest point in the United States mainland, Mt Whitney at 14,600ft. John Muir, from Scotland obviously, was the first to explore this area in the early 1900s and he is responsible for the conservation of the wilderness.
"It is now a very famous trail, the John Muir Trail. This picture is not from the year we met but our one-year anniversary; we returned to hike the last part together."
