CATRIONA'S PURPLE PATCH HELPS HER FINISH JT 4TH IN JAPAN

A purple patch of six birdies in an eight -hole stretch helped Catriona Matthew finish joint fourth in the Mizuno Classic at Shima, Japan today.
The North Berwick player had rounds of 68, 68 and 67 for a 13-under-par total of 203 at Kintetsu Country Club to earn $55,466 for finishing three shots behind the play-off participants for the $180,00 first prize.
Japan's Momoko Ueda scored 67, 64 and 69 for 16-under-par 200. a total matched by China's Shanshan Feng who had rounds of 68, 67 and 65.
Ueda won the play-off with a birdie at the third extra hole. It was her second win in the tournament over the past five years.
Catriona had six birdies in the eight-hole stretch from the third to the 10th inclusive.
She birdied the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and 10th.
She reached the turn in 31 and came home in 36, with her only bogey of the day coming at the last which cost her fourth place on her own.
Catriona had 17 birdies over the 54 holes.
