PAUL FERRIER STILL IN FORM - FIFTH PLACE FINISH IN CALIFORNIA

Former Scottish boys' match-play golf champion Paul Ferrier from Edinburgh continued his outstanding form for the University of North Carolina-Charlotte by finishing joint fifth in a field of 60 players at the Pacific Invitational men's college tournament at Brookside Country Club, Stockton in California this week (tournament ended Wednesday).
Ferrier, pictured, who won the 2007 national boys title playing out of Baberton, had rounds of 73, 71 and 68 for a one-under-par total of 212 over a par-71 course of 6,757yd.
He finished five shots behind the winner, Kevin Lucas (Nevada) who had rounds of 66, 71 and 70 for six-under 207.
Lucas won by one shot from Oregon State's Alex Moore who had rounds of 68, 70 and 70 for 208.
Ferrier's final round was the joint second best of the last day. He had birdies at the second, ninth, 13th, 17th and 18th, boosting his total for the tournament to eight.
The Scot, in his fourth and final college year, has been UNC-Charlotte's  leading player in the 2011-2012 college golf season, with the lowest stroke average of 72.5. Last month he was named for the first time as the Atlantic 10 Conference Golfer of the Week.
UNC-Charlotte (865) finished fourth behind joint team winners Oregon State and Nevada (both 855) and Colorado State (859) in a field of 12 squads.
