Grant Forrest, last year's Scottish boys' match-play golf champion and now a freshman student at San Diego University, finished eighth in a field of 48 players on a trip to Hawaii this week for the Kauai Collegiate Invitational at Puakea Golf Club.
Craigielaw Golf Club member Forrest, pictured right by courtesy of Andy Forman, shot ever-improving rounds of 74, 72 and 69 for a one-under-par total of 215. He finished 13 shots behind the local winner by seven, Thomas Rua (Hawaii University) who had rounds of 69, 67 and 66 for 14-under-par 202.
Forrest's effort was crucial to the team success by San Diego whose five-man team totalled 850 to win by a single shot from Hawaii. Charleston (863) were third in a field of six teams.
Forrest had the second best total in the San Diego team.
The course was a par-72 of 6,954yd

Ross's second round was the lowest score of the tournament contested by 78 players. Winner by three shots was M J Daffus (Lamar University) with rounds of 65, 70 and 67 for 11-under 202.
Texas A and M (830) pipped Duke (831) for the team title. Houston (862) finished T7 for 14.

PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM! WHITEHEAD FINISHES JT THIRD ON HAWAII

Sam Whitehead from Milton Keynes, a second-year student at Grand Canyon University, Arizona, finished joint third in a field of 54 players at the Dennis Rose Invitational college tournament at Waikaloa Kings Resort on Hawaii this week.
Sam, pictured right, scored 76-71-69 for a level par total of 216 over a long par-72 course of 7,074yd.

PAUL DUNNE NAMED GOLFER OF

WEEK AFTER 2nd PLACE FINISH

Irish amateur international Paul Dunne, a freshman student at the University of Alabama-Birmingham - that's the one where Graeme McDowell was a student - has been named Conference USA Golfer of the Week after finishing second in The Hummingbird Intercollegiate at Country Club of Sapphire Valley, Sapphie in North Carolina.
Paul, a Dubliner by birth and a member of Greystokes Golf Club, Co Wicklow, shot 71 and 66 for a total of five-under-par 137 over a par-71 course of 6,767yd. Dunne could have had a phenomenal second round because he finished bogey-bogey for his 66!
That made the difference between tie-ing with the winner, Kristopher Gray (Gardner-Webb University) and finishing runner-up, two shots behind. Gray scored 67-68 for 135.
Callum Tarren from Darlington, a student at Radford University, Virginia, finished joint 71st in a field of 93 players. He had rounds of 77 and 76 for 153. Also on that mark was Welshman Jason Shufflebotham (a team-mate of Paul Dunne at UAB) from Prestatyn with rounds of 81 and 72.
UAB (567) finished second behind team winners Appalachian State (565) - so Paule Dunne's bogey-bogey finish was significant in terms of the individual and team results.
Radford (592) finished 11th of 17 teams.
