Defending champion Julie Tvede from Denmark will be back to defend the Murcia Ladies Open when the second edition of the event gets under way at La Manga Club in Murcia, Spain, from next Thursday to Saturday (November 17-19).
A field of 84 players from 20 countries will battle for the title at the penultimate event on the 2011 LETAS schedule, which began in March and concludes next month in the Azores.
The three-round Murcia Ladies Open has attracted the current LETAS order of merit leader, Henrietta Zuel of England, who has claimed two of five events played so far this season: the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in France and the LETAS Ladies Open in the UK.
Marieke Nivard of the Netherlands, who graduated from the LET’s Qualifying School at La Manga Club a year ago, is returning after securing her maiden professional victory at the Trophée Prevens in France in October and, ranked second on the LETAS order of merit, is well in the hunt to earn of two available Ladies European Tour cards.
There are 11 players from the home nation of Spain including 21-year-old former amateur golf star Carlota Ciganda from Pamplona, who turned professional in May. She will be warming up for LET Qualifying School taking place at the same venue from January 8, 2012.
Other prominent names in the fray will be LET regulars Carmen Alonso, Ana Larraneta, Bénedicte Toumpsin, Kym Larratt, Kiran Matharu, Riikka Hakkarainen, Mélodie Bourdy, Margherita Rigon and Sophie Sandolo, among others.
Also returning is Welshwoman Sahra Hassan, who ended 54 holes tied for the lead on one over par last year. She challenged for the title over five extra holes as play went over to Monday morning due to darkness, but was eventually defeated in the play-off by Tvede.
+Scots who have entered the Murcia Ladies Open are: Pamela Feggans, Heather MacRae, Katy McNicoll, Gemma Webster and Pamela Pretswell, who retains her amateur status.
