KEVIN PHELAN RUNNER-UP TO NORTH FLORIDA TEAM-MATE

Kevin Phelan from Waterford, Ireland, who took part in at least one practice week at Royal Aberdeen with the players who were later chosen for the GB and Ireland Walker Cup team earlier this summer, finished second in the Amelia Island Intercollegiate tournament at Amelia National Golf Club, Fernandina Beach earlier this week.
Kevin, pictured, a student at North Florida University, was the first-round leader with a five-under-par 67 over a course of 7,136yd but subsequent rounds of 71 and 72 for a six-under-par total allowed team-mate Sean Dale to catch him and win by three shots with scores of 70, 67 and 70 for 210.
A total of 83 players took part.
North Florida, no surprise after their 1-2 in the individual placings, won the team title by 10 shots from Texas A and M in a field of 15 teams.

+Amelia Island is one of the southernmost of the Sea Islands, a chain of barrier islands that stretches along the east coast of the United States from South Carolina to Florida. It is 13 miles long and approximately four miles  wide at its widest point. Amelia Island is situated off the coast in Nassau County, Florida, south of Cumberland Island, Georgia. Fernandina Beach and Amelia City are both located on the island.
