LYNN KENNY, CARLY BOOTH HEAD 11 SCOTS BOUND FOR Q SCHOOL

Lynn Kenny and Carly Booth head a list of 11 Scots bound for the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School's two-part programme at La Manga, Spain from January 8 to 19.
Lynn, pictured right, Scottish women's amateur champion at Machrihanish in the year 2000 and a graduate of Stirling University, was a Curtis Cup reserve in 2004, the year she turned pro. She has been on the LET circuit for the past seven years. Kenny finished 102nd on its 2011 money list with earnings of 17,379 Euros.
"Unfortunately, I missed out on retaining a conditional players' card by only 500 Euros which, in the grand scheme of things, equates to one or two shots over the whole year!" said Lynn.
Stirling-born Kenny, 31, who plays out of Archerfield Links, and 19-year-old Carly Booth, pictured below, from Comrie, Perthshire, who finished 109th on the LET Tour money list in her second year as a pro with earnings of 14,592 Euros, go straight through to the Final Qualifying School's 90-hole tournament from January 15 to 19, at the end of which the top 30 will gain playing rights for 2012. Prior to that there is a cut to the leading 50 and ties after four rounds.
The nine other Scots need nerves of steel, a little bit of luck and a lot of birdie putts holed to survive a pre-qualifying eliminator over 72 holes at La Manga from January 8 to 11.
They are Pamela Feggans, Majorca-based Lauren Mackin, Heather MacRae, Katy McNicoll, Nicola Melville, Linzi Morton, Pamela Pretswell, Clare Queen and Gemma Webster.
Curtis Cup player Pretswell is keeping her options open by retaining her amateur status. British stroke-play champion in 2010, the Hamilton-based Bothwell Castle GC member and Glasgow University graduate, would almost certainly be chosen to play for Great Britain and Ireland in the match against the United States at Nairn from June 8-10 were she to fail at this, her first attempt, to clear the LET Q School hurdle.
Linzi Morton, who played out of Tulliallan when she won the Scottish women's amateur title at Carnoustie in 2001, has had a spell in America before returning to this country. She is on the list of professional caddies for the St Andrews' courses.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BETH BAUER?

Quote this week from Beth Bauer, now 31, a US Curtis Cup team player in 1998 (Minnikahda) and 2000 (Ganton), and LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year 2002.
"I'd been competing since I was eight years old, travelling (to tournaments) since I was 13. You get to 25 and you've been doing it half your life. At some point, you're going to wake up and find you're 35 ... and still alone, still travelling. What else do you want out of life?"
