JODI EWART WINS LPGA TOUR CARD WITH jt FOURTH FINISH
Yorkshire exile Jodi Ewart has made it to the LPGA Tour card at last!
The former University of New Mexico student, a winner on the US College Women's Tour, won her playing rights on the biggest women's pro circuit in the world by finishing joint fourth in the Final Qualifying School which ended after five rounds over the Legends and Champions courses at LPGA International, Daytona Beach in Florida.
Jodi, who played in the 2008 Curtis Cup match over the Old Course, St Andrews, scored 70, 73, 74, 70 and 70 for a three-under-par total of 357.
Long-time leader Christine Song from California was caught over the final round by Thailand's Junthima Guiyanamitta who repeated her fourth-round four under par 68 to complete her great late run to victory
She finished on 10-under-par 350, two shots ahead of Christine Song who had rounds of 66, 70, 70, 72 and 74.
In all 28 players won full playing rights on the 2012 LPGA Tour.
Surprisingly, the talented Spaniard, Carlota Ciganda, a former British and European amateur champion, failed to gain a full card but she will be able to gain entry to some of the less lucrative events on the LPGA Tour.
Carlota finished joint 34th on 368 with scores of 72, 75, 71, 78 and 72. She was three shots outside making the T20 group.
American women's amateur champion Danielle Kang who was the leading amateur at the Ricoh Women's British Open championship at Carnoustie this past summer was a shot worse than Ciganda.
Danielle finished T39 with scores of 72, 78, 69, 75 and 75 for 369.
CASHNOTE: Junthima Gulyanamitta paid a total of $5,500 for entry fees at all three stages of LPGA Tour qualifying. She earned $5,000 for her two-shot victory in the final stage.
