NORTHERN COUNTIES LGA STALWART FRANCES SOUTER DIES
FROM ISOBEL McINTOSH, INVERNESS
It is with great sadness that we have to report the death of Mrs. Frances Souter (on Tuesday, December 27).
She was a past captain, president and honorary member of Northern Counties Ladies Golf Association.
Frances, pictured right, was also a founder member of Northern Counties Girls Golf Association and spent many years developing junior golf in the north. Frances was also a keen curler in her youth and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her not only in the north but throughout Scotland.
DEATH NOTICE FROM THE INVERNESS COURIER

Funeral service on Thursday, 5th January, 2012, at 12.30pm, in Inverness Crematorium. All friends respectfully invited. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to the Highland Hospice may be given at the service or forwarded to D. Chisholm & Sons, Huntly Street, Inverness IV3 5HP.
TRIBUTE FROM MAGI VASS, TAIN
I was so sad to hear of the sad death of Frances Souter. She was Captain of the Northern Counties girls team when I was a girl and I thought you might like this photo (see below) for the Kirkwood website.
It is the Northern Counties Girls team, with Frances pictured on the right, at a match against Aberdeenshire at Murcar on June 8, 1980.
Left to right are Magi Russell (Vass) Tain, Lindsey Anderson (Garden) Tain, Lorna Chapman - Elgin, Katherine Toal - DHR, Lynn Mair - DHR and Fiona McFeat (mum of Eilidh MacKay), Nairn Dunbar.
I only know all this information as Frances wrote it all on the back of the photo and gave us one each. I don't know if we won the match but with Frances at the helm I am pretty sure we would have!
She was a big part of any success we girls ever went on to achieve.

Below, another picture from Magi Vass. Taken 11 years after the one above, this is Frances Souter (extreme right back row) as president of the NCLGA and the Northern Counties winning team at Murcar in the 1991 North Division inter-county championship.
