TITLE-HOLDER RETO LEADS BY THREE IN WOMEN'S DIXIE AMATEUR

FROM THE WOMEN'S DIXIE AMATEUR WEBSITE
CORAL SPRINGS, Florida — Defending champion Paula Reto of Cape Town, South Africa, fired a five-under 67 Saturday to take a three-shot lead into the penultimate third round of the women’s Dixie Amateur at Heron Bay Golf Club.
In Friday’s first round, Reto, a junior at Purdue University, shot a 3-under 69 that left her one shot back of Thai teenager Moriya Jutanugarn, but Jutanugarn’s 75 on Saturday dropped her into a tie for third with Nicole Quinn of Windermere, Florida, seven shots back of Reto.
Moriya’s 16-year-old sister, Ariya, matched Reto for the low round of the day. Her 67, combined with an opening even-par 72, left her alone in second. Three other highly ranked players, England’s Holly Clyburn, Jaye Marie Green of nearby Boca Raton, and Madison Pressel of Ocala, Florida, sister of LPGA star Morgan Pressel, were in a group of seven golfers tied for ninth, nine shots back of Reto.
Also in that group was Ocala’s Kristine O’Daiyar who followed a disappointing first-round 76 with a stellar 69 Saturday.
England's Rachel Drummond, two shots off the pace at the start of the day, slumped to a 78 for 148 and is now T22.
In the Senior division, even an ace on the par-3 11th hole by Canada's Ivy Steinberg of Stouffville, Ontario, wasn’t enough to derail Diane Lang’s quest to be the only women to capture the title in the three years of its existence. Lang, of Weston, Florida, followed an opening-round 71 with a 73 Saturday, to take a six-shot lead over Lisa Schlesinger of Laytonsville, Maryland into the final round of the Senior tournament.
Steinberg was tied for third with Anna Schultz of Rockwell, Texas, eight shots off the lead.
