FROM THE GOLFWEEK WEBSITE
Cory Whitsett, a sophomore at Alabama, shot 64 Thursday in the second round of the inaugural Patriot All-America Invitational men's college tournament to take a two-shot lead after 36 holes.
The event, co-hosted by the Folds of Honor Foundation, features 84 college players who each represent a fallen service member.
Whitsett, who also won the Western Refining All-America Classic in a play-off in November, rebounded from a first-round 69 at Wigwam Resort’s Gold Course in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
He leads team-mate Bobby Wyatt by two shots. Wyatt shot 66 in Round 2 and sits at 7-under 135 after two rounds.
Johannes Veerman, of Texas A and M, is third at 5-under 137.
First-round leader Brooks Koepka, of Florida State, is tied for fourth with three other players at 3-under 139. Kopeka opened with a 67, but fell to a 72 second time round.
Nick Macandrew, the only British or Irish player in the select field, is lying joint 42nd on five over par 147 after rounds of 75 and 72. A 21-year-old law student at Aberdeen University, Macandrew earned an invitation to this prestigious event by winning this year's RandA Scholars' Tournament, a victory which also guaranteed him selection to play for Europe against the United States in the Palmer Cup international students' match.
