GEMMA SPARKLES TO JOIN CLARE AND PAMELA AS QUALIFIERS

There will be five Scots in the field for the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School's five-round Final stage, starting at La Manga on Sunday. Lynn Kenny and Carly Booth, exempt from the pre-qualifier which ended today will be joined by Clare Queen (The Carrick at Loch Lomond), GB and I international amateur Pamela Pretswell and, thanks to a sparkling sub-par fourth and final round, Glasgow's former US college circuit player, Gemma Webster.
With the field of over 200 split into two groups, Queen finished joint 10th on five-over 293 in Group A while Pretswell came joint 18th on 296 in Group B. Webster surged from joint 44th overnight to joint 28th with a one-under-par 70 at La Manga North for a total of 299, making it through with a shot to spare.
Heather MacRae missed out by a single stroke after she too finished with a good score, a 71 at La Manga North. But for a disastrous opening round of 81, MacRae would have made it with ease.
Same goes for Majorca-based youngster Lauren Mackin. She had three respectable scores but was dragged down by a second-round 84.
Other Scots who failed to gain pass marks were former Scottish women's champion and now St Andrews Links Trust caddie Linzi Morton, Nicola Melville, Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll and Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire.

The first hurdle in the LET’s Qualifying School marathon has been cleared with 72 players having graduated to the Final Stage. A 90-hole test now awaits 101 players who will play the Final Stage at La Manga Club in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain, from Sunday.
The field will play both the North and South Courses for the first four rounds with a cut to the leading 50 players and ties after 72 holes. The final round, which will determine exemption categories for the 2012 season, will then be played on the South course.
At stake are places on The 2012 Ladies European Tour for the cream of the crop. The players will all be eyeing a place in the top 30 to secure eligibility for LET Membership in Category 8a.
After the final round, players who made the cut but finished in position 31 or below will be ranked according to score and will be eligible for LET Membership in Category 9b.
Players who fail to make the 72 hole cut will be eligible for Category 11a Membership of the Ladies European Tour for the 2012 season.
Esther Choe of the United States won the Group A tournament at Pre-Qualifying, coming out as the best of the 35 qualifiers from that field at La Manga Club today. She shot rounds of 71, 76, 66 and 67 to finish on eight under par, four clear of England’s Jodi Ewart.
The cut off was 11 over par.
Meanwhile England’s Hannah Burke won the Group B competition, where 37 players qualified at 12 over par or better. Burke shot rounds of 74, 69, 67 and 67 over the South, North, South and North course at La Manga Club respectively. She ended 11 under par and six shots ahead of Swede Karin Sjodin.
