STEPHANIE, LEONA, CHARLEY WIN LEAR RANKING MEDALS FOR 2011

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE
 IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Ireland's Stephanie Meadow, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, and Leona Maguire have won LEAR Gold and Silver medals as the top-ranked players in the Ladies’ European Amateur Rankings (LEAR) at the end of 2011.
Final results for 2011 (as of January 8, 2012) were:
1st Stephanie Meadow (Royal Portrush) 1588.68 pts
2nd Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell) 1531.37 pts
3rd Charley Hull (Woburn) 1452.17 pts
Stephanie Meadow, presently based in the US as a student at Alabama University, won the Lady Puerto Rico Classic early season and followed by winning the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate.
She reeled-off another three top-four US finishes before winning the NCAA East Regional Championship by six strokes. Back in Europe, she took the second place in both the Irish Open Stoke Play and the International European Ladies’ Amateur.
Leona Maguire, pictured left by Cal Carson Golf Agency, started her season by winning the Portuguese Ladies’ Amateur Open. In June, she won the Irish Open Stroke Play. Two months later, she took the British Ladies’ Open Stroke Play by six strokes, concluding with a pair of 69s to end the tournament as the only player to match par for the four rounds over the Royal Ashdown Forest course, England.
Third-placed Charley Hull’s season highlights included first place in the Welsh Ladies’ Open Stroke Play and runner-up in the English Ladies’ Amateur.
Charley, pictured below, also won the English Women’s Stroke Play at Alwoodley GC by four strokes.
LEAR Conditions and full results for 2011 can be viewed at www.ega-golf.ch The first three ranked players will receive formal recognition for their achievement by being awarded European Golf Association  medal prizes.
