ASHBY, HAY HELP CARSON-NEWMAN WIN TEAM TITLE THRILLER

COLIN FARQUHARSOON'S US COLLEGE GOLF ROUND-UP

Dubliner Liam Ashby and Glasgow's Gavin Hay - both students at Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City in Tennessee - finished in the top 10 in a field of 79 players for this week's Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate tournament at Hombre Golf Club, Panama City Beach, Florida.
Senior-year student Ashby, pictured right, tied for fourth place on four-over-par 148 with rounds of 75 and 73 over a 6,900yd course (par 72) - two shots behind two play-off participants, Adrian Kibsey (King College) (69-77) and Eric Kennedy (Lincoln Memorial College) (74-72). Kennedy won the play-off for the individual title with an eagle at the first sudden-death hole.
Hay finished joint 10th on 150 with scores of 72 and 78.
In joint 12th place came Jamie Chapman from Sussex. He's a junior year student at Lincoln Memorial. Jamie shot 75-76 for 151.
Ashby and Hay's performances helped Carson-Newman College win the team title after surely one of the closest ever finishes on record.
Three teams tied on 601 - Carson-Newman, Flagler College and Lincoln Memorial - and the fourth-placed Columbus State were only a shot behind them on 602 in a field of 16 teams.
Carson-Newman won the title at the second hole of a sudden-death team play-off. Exciting stuff!

TOM GAMBLE JT 5th AT MELBOURNE, FLORIDA

Tom Gamble, pictured right, from Walton-on-Thames, a student at Webber International, finished joint fifth in the Titan Winter Invitational at Sun Tree CC, Melbourne in Florida.
Tom scored 74, 71 and 74 for three-over 219 oveer a par-72 course of 6,906yd.
Winner was Joe Sakulpolphaisan (Darton CC) with rounds of 73, 68 and 70 for five-under 211. He won by two from Christian Westhorpe (Florida Tech) (69-69-75).
Gamble's Webber International team-mate, Connor O'Dell from Taunton, Somerset finished T47 in a field of 70 players. He scored 76, 81 and 76 for 233.
Brevard CC won the team title with a total of 875, five ahead of Florida Tech with Webber International (889) third of 11 teams.

MICHAEL O'CONNOR JT 12th AT SIERRA DEL RIO

Michael O'Connor from Hayes, Middlesex finished 12th in a field of 30 players at the New Mexico Collegiate Cup tournamentg at Sierra del Rio Golf Club, New Mexico.
Over a long course (7,013yd) with a par of 72, Michael (pictured right) scored 74-80 for 154.
O'Connor is a student at Wester New Mexico University.
Winner by five strokes with what must have been some brilliant golf was Zachary Fullerton (New Mexico State) with scores of 63 and 69 for 12-under-par 132.
Runner-up on 137 was team-mate Justin Shane with scores of 71 and 66.
Sam Saunders (New Mexico) was third on 143 (72-71).
