HAYLEY DAVIS SHOOTS CAREER-LOW 68 TO SHARE FLORIDA LEAD

If Hayley Davis was disappointed she has not been selected for the GB and I Curtis Cup selection trial at The Nairn Golf Club next month, she did not let it show when she had her first competitive outing of 2012 for Baylor University, Texas.
Hayley, pictured, who had her 19th birthday on February 4, shot a career-low, four-under-par 68 to share the first-round lead with Victoria Trapani (Auburn) in the UCF Challenge women's college tournament at Red Tail Golf Club, Sorrento in Florida yesterday.
Who knows? Perhaps it spurred the 2010 English women's amateur champion on to a greater effort. Hayley, who calls Wimborne, Dorset home, is having a terrific freshman seat on the US women's circuit. In the first half of the 2011-2012 college golf season, Hayley played four tournaments and finished in the top three in three of them.
She is ranked No 25 in US women's college golf.
Hayley had a bogey-free round with birdies at the third, long seventh, short 11th and short 15th.
She was actually headed by Trapani when the Auburn played birdied the fourth, sixth, 10th, 13th and 16th - but Victoria bogeyed her last hole and fell back into a tie with Davis.
Kirsty Rands from Surrey, a senior-year student at Augusta State, will start the second round in joint 13th place. She had a par-matching 72. Starting at the 10th with a bogey, Kirsty birdied the short 15th, bogeyed the long 17th and 18th but then finished well with birdies at the third and short sixth.
Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh, beaten finalist in last year's Scottish girls Under-18 match-play championship and now a freshman student at Tulane University, New Orleans, was one under par with one hole to play - and doube-bogeyed it for a 73 and a share of 22nd place in a field of 99 players.
Earlier Gemma had bogeyed the third and fifth, birdied the short sixth and long seventh, bogeyed the ninth and 10th and then birdied the short 11th, long 12th and long 17th to get under par.

Shufflebotham, Dunne, Phelan not in contention at Gainesville

Jason Shufflebotham from Wales and Paul Dunne from Greystones, Ireland, both students the University of Alabama-Birmingham, finished T28 and T44 respectively in a field of 75 at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational at Mark Bostic Golf Club, Gainesville, Florida.
Shufflebotham totalled 221 with scores of 78, 70 and 73 over the par 70 course of 6,701yd. Dunne shot 74, 74 and 77 for 225.
Kevin Phelan (North Florida) from Waterford, Ireland finished T55 with roounds of 75, 78 and 75 for 228.
The winner by five shots with an eight-under-par aggregate of 202 was Dominic Bozzelli (Auburn) (68-64-70).
