MEGHAN MACLAREN WINS EWGA SILVER TEE FOR GOLF, STUDIES
NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ENGLISH WOMEN'S GOLF ASSOCIATION
Northamptonshire’s Meghan MacLaren (pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency) is outstanding both on the golf course and in the classroom – and her performance has won the Silver Tee award from the English Women’s Golf Association.
The award is made annually to a girl who develops her golf while also concentrating on her studies. Meghan’s success in the Silver Tee was announced at yesterday’s annual meeting of England Golf, the new national governing body for amateur golf in England formed by the merger of the English Golf Union and the English Women’s Golf Association.
Meghan commented on the award: “I’m absolutely thrilled. It just goes to show what a great job EWGA do through their coaching programmes. I have been with them since the age of nine and their continued support and belief in my golfing ability has helped give me the confidence to work hard at school and achieve my best both on and off the course. I feel very honoured to receive this award.”
Meghan, from Wellingborough Golf Club, is an England girl international who helped win the 2011 girls’ Home Internationals. She was third in the British women’s stroke-play championship, U21 runner-up at the Faldo Series grand final, had a top-ten finish in the English girls’ championship and was second in the English schools’ championship.
She also helped Northamptonshire win a place at County Finals. Meanwhile, she has also concentrated on her studies, achieving twelve As at GCSE and three As at AS level. Her GCSE results were the best ever achieved by a student at her school.
Meghan is also taking the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE). After sitting her A Levels this summer she will take up a golf scholarship at Florida International University, Miami.
Golf coach Joe Vogel said: "We're super excited about Meghan joining our squad. Meghan is a great tournament player and has an outstanding attitude on and off the course."
