CHARLEY IS THE UK DARLING WITH A FOUR-UNDER-PAR 68
Charley Hull, the 16-year-old holder of the English and Welsh women's open stroke-play amateur titles from last year, shot a brilliant four-under-par 68 in Saturday's third round of the first major of the LPGA Tour season - the Kraft Nabisco Championship - at Mission Hills, Rancho Mirage in California.
The Woburn member and Kettering resident who will make her GB and I debut against the United States in the Curtis Cup match at The Nairn (June 8-10) looked a class act and top prospect as she birdied the long second, the short eighth, the long ninth, the long 11th and the short 17th.
Charley dropped just one shot - at the 13th.
Her earlier rounds were 71 and 77 so she is on level par 216 with a round to go.
In the third round, Charley drove the ball more than 12yards farther than she did in Round 1 - up from 248yards to 261.50yds.
She had only 28 putts for the second day in a row and hit 12 out of 14 fairways.
Hull outscored on the day Catriona Matthew (70), Becky Morgan (72) and Karen Stupples (75), Melissa Reid (71) and Jodi Ewart (73). Catriona is the leading British player in joint 24th position on 214 - seven shots off the pace.
Yani Tseng (Taiwan)) and Sweden's Karin Sjodin are joing leaders on nine-under 207 going into the final round. They lead by two from South Korean Haeji Kang.
