CHLOE WILLIAMS BEATEN IN SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS
Chloe Williams' great run in the Spanish women's amateur championship at El Valle GC, Murcia ended in the semi-finals this afternoon. The Wrexham teenager, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, 13th of the 32 match-play qualifiers, was beaten 2 and 1 by the No 24 qualifier, Karolin Lampert (Germany) who had beaten Curtis Cup player Holly Clyburn (Woodhall Spa) in the first round.
Williams made a bad start to the semi-final, losing the first, second (to a birdie), fifth, sixth (to a birdie) and the seventh (with a double bogey 7) to be four down, having won only the fourth with a par.
But Chloe got her teeth into the match after that.
She birdied the par-4 eighth to start her comeback. Then she won the ninth, 11th and 12th with par figures to square the match.
Lampert regain the lead with a birdie at the 13th.
The 14th was halved in birdies.
Williams got a birdie 2 at the short 15th to get back on level terms but her Geman opponent raised her game under pressure to birdie the long 16th and the par-4 17th to win by 2 and 1.
In the other semi-final, Ileen Nieuwenhuis (Netherlands) beat Silvia Banon (Spain) - conqueror of Pamela Pretswell in the morning quarter-finals - by 6 and 5. The Dutch girl was three up after seven holes and went six up by birdieing three holes in a row, the 10th, 11th and 12th.
