WELSH 1-2 IN FIRST BIG 36-HOLE EVENT OF SEASON

Amy Boulden celebrated her selection to play for GB and Ireland in the Curtis Cup match at The Nairn from June 8 to 10 by winning the first prestigious 36-hole women's open tournament of the season -  The Leveret Trophy over the Formby Ladies Golf Club course in Lancashire.
Welsh girl Amy, an 18-year-old member of Conwy Golf Club, made the most of a flying start - a brilliant seven-under-par 64 in the first round which gave her a two-stroke lunchtime lead over Rachael Goodall (Heswall).
That 64, by the way, equalled the course record set many years ago in the tournament by Elaine Ratcliffe who played for GB and I in the Curtis Cup matches of 1996 and 1998.
There have been slight alterations to the course since then but the yardage - 5,374 - remains the same, according to former Scottish women's champion Fiona Anderson who ran "The Leveret Trophy" for a number of years.
Amy Boulden cooled off just a wee bit with a one-under-par 70 in the afternoon for 134 but that eight-under-par total was good enough to see her the winner by two shots from Wrexham 17-year-old Chloe Williams who had a pair of 68s for six-under 136.
Chloe, a Junior Vagliano Trophy player last season when she was beaten by Bronte Law in a play-off for the Scottish Under-16 girls' open championship, also played in last week's Curtis Cup selection trial as a substitute for Lauren Taylor (Woburn).
Rachael Goodall finished third on 140, adding a 74 to her opening 66.
Bronte Law (Bramhall), the other Curtis Cup team member in the field, finished sixth equal on 143 (69-74)
