Karolin Lampert, teenage German player who is No 92 in the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings, won the Spanish women's amateur international championship at El Valle Golf Club, Murcia this morning.
The No 24 qualifier for the match-play stages, Karolin, pictured with the trophy, beat the unranked Ileen Nieuwenhuis (Netherlands), the No 23 qualifier, by 4 and 3 the 18-hole final. She was roughly level par for the 15 holes played in the final.
The German player won the first hole with a par and the third with a birdie to go into a two-hole lead. She never looked and by the turn had established a four-hole lead with successes at the fifth, eighth and ninth. The only hole the Dutch girl won on the outward half was the fourth. Lampert was out in an approximate level par to Nieuwenhuis's 41.
Lampert took a stranglehold on the outcome by winning the 10th with a par and the 11th with a birdie to move into a commanding six-hole lead.
That spurred on Nieuwenhuis to win the 12th and 13th with birdies to reduce her deficit to four holes but halves at the 14th and 15th ended the contest.
Karolin made the last 16 of last year's British girls championship at Gullane and won three of her four matches for the Continent of Europe against GB and I in the inaugural Under-16s Junior Vagliano Trophy match at Royal Porthcawl last June.
Miss Lampert beat Charley Hull 4 and 1 and Bronte Law by one hole in the singles of the Junior Vagliano Trophy match.
Earlier in the Spanish championship, she was the hammer of the Welsh, beating Amy Boulden (Conwy) by 4 and 3 in the first round and Chloe Williams (Wrexham) by 3 and 2 in Saturday afternoon's semi-finals.
