IT AIN'T HALF HOT, MUM - TEMPERATURES AND SCORING AT LOSSIE

By Dr ROB McPHERSON
The second day of the Scottish student golf championships for the Jack Allan Trophy, held at an unseasonably scorching Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth, saw many of the key contenders shoot scores well under par in their quest for the trophy.
Stirling's scond team captain, Duncan Douglas, led the way with a stunning score of 65, closely followed by Darren Timms (Stirling) who shot a 66 for a 36-hole total of five-under-par 135 (a championship record) to lead by three from first round pacesetters Nick McAndrew (Aberdeen), Matt Wheeler (St Andrews) and David Booth (Stirling).
On a day which saw the lowest ever scoring in the championships' 80 years' history, a tenth of the field shot scores in the 69s.
Stirling University took the Moray Trophies Mens' Team Strokeplay Championship from St Andrews in second and Aberdeen in third.
Also on Moray New, in the Ladies' Championship, Eilidh Briggs (Stirling) continued her quest for an unprecendented "Grand Slam" of the four Scottish University Order of Merit events in 2011-12 with a spectacular round of 68 for a 36-hole tally of seven-under-par 141 to lead teammate Hannah McCook by seven shots, with St Andrews Franzi Benze and Gemma Bradbury two shots further back on 150.
Stirling University Ladies also took the Moray Trophies Team Strokeplay Championship from their rivals.
Both individual championships see their final 36 holes on Tuesday, the cut for the Men's Championship falling at a record low of 156.
