FREDDIE PRICE WINS FALDO EVENT AT ROYAL ASHDOWN FOREST

NEWS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE FALDO SERIES

England’s Freddie Price celebrated victory in the second Faldo Series UK Championship of the 2012 season with a level-par 72 at Royal Ashdown Forest in Sussex.  The 18-year-old from Royal Blackheath beat Steven Gibbs (Sedlescombe) on count back after the event was reduced to 18 holes due to flooding.

“I missed out by one shot a couple of years ago which makes winning now feel extra special,” said a delighted Price who qualifies for the 16^th Faldo Series Europe Grand Final, to be hosted by six-time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland in September.

 Other age-group winners heading to the World Amateur Golf Ranking event at Lough Erne include England squad members Sophie Keech (Girls’ Under-16) and Samantha Giles (Girls’ Under-21).  They will be joined by Langley Park’s Max Jordan (Boys’ Under-16) and Matthew Waters from Purley Downs (Boys’ Under-21).

Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.

 Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
