CARNOUSTIE'S KATY SECOND IN UKRAINE

Spurred on by Pamela Pretswell's victory in Sweden last week, Carnoustie's Katy McNicoll is lying a close-up second after the first round of the Golf Stream Women's Open in warm weather (27 degees) although quite windy at times at Kiev Golf Club in the Ukraine today. Katy shot a level-par 72 (35-37), despite a double bogey 7 at the 13th and another shot shed at the 16th. Birdies at the long fifth, 10th and 15th repaired the damage and leave the Scot one behind Swedish leader Viva Schlasberg who came home in 33 to take the lead. Pamela Feggans from Patna, Ayrshire is joint 10th on 75 (35-40), a double bogey 6 at 15th taking the shine off a good effort. Bothwell Castle amateur Pamela Pretswell and  Glasgow's Gemma Webster are  sharing 17th place on 77. Pretswell had halves of 37 and 40.. Her birdies at the third, sixth, eighth and ninth were nullified by double bogeys at the long fifth and 16th.  Webster's 35 to the turn was one of the better outward halves but she required 42 shots to come, including a triple bogey 7 at the 14th. Heather MacRae (Gleneagles) returned an 80 (38-42) for a share of 30th place in a smallish field of 42.
