CRAIG HOWIE MAKES TOP TEN FINISH AT FAIRHAVEN
New Scottish boys champion Craig Howie (Peebles) finished joint ninth in the Fairhaven Trophies junior golf tournament at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lytham St Anne's in Lancashire.
Alexander Wilson (Renaissance) missed the cut after scores of 82-79 for 161.
Disappointingly, two of Scotland's main hopes, Jamie Savage (Cawder) and Greig Marchbank (Dumfries and Co),were disqualified. Savage signed for a 6 instead of the 7 he actually had at one hole in his second round after starting well with a 71. Marchbank completed rounds of 74-77-72 before his disqualification.
There was no joy either for the Scots in the girls' section. None of them survived the 36-hole cut.
Connie Jaffrey (Troon Ladies) shot 79-81 for 160; Tara McTaggart (Minro) 77-84 for 161 and Heather Munro (Monifieth) 87-81 for 168
Scotland's No 3 team (MacTaggart, Blaney, Marchbank) finished sixth in the Nations Cup with Scotland No 2 (Munro, Neil, Wilson) ninth and Scotland No 3 (Jaffrey, Savage and Howie) 10th of 11.
England 1 were first, England 2 second and Finland 1 third.
