IRVING, Texas Baylor freshman Hayley Davis and senior Chelsey Cothran have been named to the 2012 All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team.
The 2012 All-Big 12 Team was identified by using the top-10 highest-ranked student-athletes according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings following the Big 12 Championship.
Baylor has multiple All-Big 12 selections for the first time since 2007 (Hannah Burke and Allison Martin). Davis, pictured, and Cothran are the first Lady Bears to earn All-Big 12 honors since Burke, a compatriot of Hayley's, in 2010.
Davis, a freshman from Wimborne, England, leads the Lady Bears with a 72.93 scoring average and 1.03 score vs. par. She has finished 11th or better in each of Baylor’s 10 tournaments this season, while posting eight top-10 finishes. Davis earned Big 12 All-Tournament recognition after tying for second at the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship, finishing one stroke behind the individual winner.
Davis was named the Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for September after opening her US college golf career with back-to-back second-place finishes at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and the Branch Law Firm / Dick McGuire Invitational.
The Lady Bears earned their 11th NCAA postseason bid in program history and will compete at the 2012 NCAA West Regional, which will be hosted May 10-12 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colorado

LAWRENCE, Kansas – With the course plagued by weather delays for the second time in three days, the 18th-ranked Baylor women’s golf team finished third at the 2012 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship.
Baylor’s third-place finish matches its highest Big 12 Championship finish in program history; the Lady Bears also finished third in 2001, 2005 and 2007.
The Lady Bears shot a final-round 297 to conclude at 72-over (313-302-297=912). No. 31 Oklahoma held on to win the conference title by a seven-stroke margin; No. 30 Texas finished second at 71-over (325-298-288=911), one stroke ahead of the Lady Bears.
“It was a little bit of a disappoint week for us,” head coach Jay Goble said. “Not disappointing in effort, though. Just disappointing in knowing that we came up short.
“With the rainy weather, we got off to a bad start,” Goble said,” and, for the most part, we hung in there. I’m not to trying to make excuses, but I really believe that we didn’t get one good break all week."
Hayley Davis from England, ranked 25th nationally by Golfstat, narrowly missed winning the first Big 12 title in Baylor University women's golf program history, tying for second overall – one stroke behind Texas A&M’s Mary Michael Maggio, the Big 12 individual champion.
Davis (75-72-73=220) and Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil (75-70-75=220) tied for second at 10-over. Davis tied the Baylor program mark for the lowest individual finish at the Big 12 Championship; Hannah Burke, also from England,  finished second at the 2010 event in Norman, Oklahoma.
Cothran shot a final-round 75 to finish the tournament seventh overall at 9-over (78-72-75=225).
“Once again, Hayley and Chelsey played well,” Goble said. “Hayley had a great chance to win it all, but had a few bogeys that let it slip away. She has three more years of college golf ahead of her and she’ll be back here again for sure.”
