JAMIE SAVAGE LEADS THE SCOTS AT FAIRHAVEN TROPHIES

NEWS FROM THE FIRST DAY OF THE FAIRHAVEN TROPHIES
By Bob Thompson, Fairhaven Golf Club secretary
The first round has now been completed. Bobby Keeble and Joe Dean lead the boys' championship with course record-equalling scores of 68, four under par
Olivia Winning leads the girls' championship with a course record score of 70, five under par
In the boys' championship the leaders are followed closely by eight players, all of whom returned scores under par.
Patrick Kelly (Boston West GC) leads the chasing pack with a fine round of 69, followed on 70 by Kristian Kulokorpi (Finnish Golf Union), Ashton Turner (Kenwick Park GC), Matthew Pearson (Burnham&Berrow GC), Nick Marsh (Huddersfield GC).
On 71 are Sean Blinkhorn (Southport&Ainsdale GC), Jamie Savage (Cawder GC), pictured by Tom Ward Photography, and Jevann Parmar (Leicestershire GC).
With another seven boys on level par 72, competition tomorrow promises to be tight.
The girls' championship is also extremely close and leader Olivia Winning (Rotherham GC) is closely followed by Sophie Keech (Lyme Regis GC) following a great round of 71, four under the girls' par.
At 74, a trio of Finnish golfers lead the chasing pack, Iida Nikka, Miia Pulliainen and Sandra Salonen, who are joined on the same score by Gabriella Cowley (West Essex GC) and Hollie Vizard (Pleasington GC).
One shot further back on level par 75 are Aimee Ponte (Royal Guernsey GC) and Karina Kukkonen from Finland.
With a clear sunny day and a light north-easterly breeze forecast tomorrow some more great golf is expected. Tomorrow also sees the completion of the Nations Cup and holders Scotland will be hard pressed by the other teams.
