PATRICK KELLY'S GREAT LAST ROUND WINS BOYS' TITLE AT FAIRHAVEN

FINAL REPORT FROM THE FAIRHAVEN TROPHIES JUNIOR TOURNAMENT
By BOB THOMPSON, Fairhaven GC secretary and organiser
A wonderful championship was rounded off in glorious sunshine in front of an enthusiastic gallery.

Boys' Championship
Patrick Kelly, Boston West GC, triumphed after a great last round of one under par 71 to post a clubhouse target of three-under 285 with the third-round leader, Joe Dean, Lindrick GC, still out on the course.
The back nine holes proved pivotal as Patrick completed them in 35, 1 under. He had covered the front nine in level par 36 which included a double bogey on the fourth.
Joe Dean, after a one under par outward half, faltered after the turn with a double bogey on the 10th, followed by bogeys on the 15th and 16th to come home in 40 for a final round of 75.
Patrick completed the final two rounds with a pair of 71s for 142, each time coming home in 35.
Ashton Turner, Kenwick Park GC, and Nick Marsh finished tied for third place on level par 288. A shot behind was Henry James, Kidderminster GC, who equalled the winner's last two rounds of 142 (71 and 71).
Julian Ballmann from Germany finished a final round of 71 for a total of 291, which was the same total as Matthew Pearson, Burnham and Berrow GC. Kristian Kulokorpi from Finland completed the top eight with a total of 292.

Girls Championship
A delighted Iida Nikka, from Finland, came from behind on the final day. Starting six shots behind the leaders in her third round, she completed her final two rounds in 5 under par (72 and 73). Her final round was finished in style, 2 under for the back nine, to post a great round of 73, against the par of 75.
Third-round leader, Olivia Winning from Rotherham, started her final round poorly, reaching the turn in 3 over, but showed great spirit in fighting back finishing the back 9 in 3 under par, for a level par round of 75. Despite her birdie at the last she failed catch Iida’s total of 298 (2 under par) by a shot, finishing on a four round total of 299 ( 1 under par).
Iida becomes the first overseas winner of this great international championship for U18 boys and girls.
