FERN GRIMSHAW BREAKS HENDRIKSEN WPGA ONE-DAY MONOPOLY

FROM THE PGA E-BULLETIN
Fern Grimshaw, of Weymouth's Wessex Golf Centre, overcame atrocious weather conditions to collect her first WPGA One Day Series win of the year at Chestfield Golf Club.
After Devon-based Laura Hendriksen had won the opening two events, Grimshaw stayed calm and played with a smile on her face as she took the honours.
Grimshaw won last year's WPGA Order of Merit and her victory at the Kent venue means she is back in contention to repeat the feat in 2012 as she is now hot on Hendriksen's heels.
But Grimshaw was only concerned with finishing with a respectable round at Chestfield.
She carded a two-over-par round of 73 and that proved more than enough as she finished four shots ahead of Sarah Carty from Ireland's Black Bush Golf Club.
Grimshaw said: "It was shocking out there, the wind was terrible, but there was never any suggestion the event was going to get called off so we had to get on with it.
"I bogeyed the first two holes. We would have to wait to make putts because the ball was shaking in the wind.
"But then I took the view that there was no point in getting angry.
"I just started laughing about it really. I tried my best to enjoy it out there and use it as good experience.
"It worked for me although I was expecting someone to come in with a better score."
Grimshaw admitted the victory was a boost for her WPGA Order of Merit ambitions.
She added: "I'm challenging earlier than I was last year. Laura missed out this time but she's such a good player that I know she'll do well in the remaining events."
Lucy Clarke (Chelmsford Golf Club) was third, with OOM leader Hendriksen ninth
