THE LIZ MISKIMMIN AM-AM TOURNAMENT

 By HUGH HUNTER
There is a perception in some quarters that golfers are elitist and selfish, and cannot see beyond their own golfing world.  This image is not helped when, as reported recently, some golf professionals clamour for more professional events while at the same time eyeing up expensive super cars.
It is therefore refreshing to highlight one of the many fund raising events carried out throughout Scotland by golfers with the aim of supporting worthy causes.  These events are generally less publicised than large tournaments, but their value is far higher to the community at large.
Such a tournament was the Liz Miskimmin Am-Am tournament played recently at Dunblane New Golf Club to celebrate the life of  Liz…. an outstanding person and golfer.  The event was masterminded by Fran Liddle, Miriam Wilson, Dorothy Benzies and Kathleen Sutherland along with helpers from Dunblane and friends of Liz .  Fran Liddle was delighted with the response
“There was a full field of 50 teams playing----- you would be amazed by the creativity in the team names--- and all who played had a good time helped by good weather.  Our thanks must go to Dunblane New Golf Club for the use of the course and all the people who made donations of prizes. We are all so pleased that we have raised around £7500 which will go to the Cornhill Macmillan Centre in Perth."

Prizes were presented by Helen McKay, sister of Liz who gave an insight into her life outwith golf--- especially her love of dogs.
