EUROPEANS ROUT AMERICANS IN ASTONISHING PALMER CUP WIN

Europe scored a magnficent, come-from-behind win over the United States to win the Palmer Cup international students' match over three days of fluctuating fortunes at Royal Co Down Golf Club, Newcastle in Northern Ireland.
The final scoreline was: Europe 13 1/2, United States 10 1/2
The Americans had led 3-1 at the end of the first-day foursomes and took the four-balls 3 1/2-1/2 to extend their lead to 6 1/2-1 1/2
The European fightback began in the first set of singles which they edged 4 1/2 to 3 1/2 but that still left the United States 10-6 in the lead going into the final day of singles.
Who could have predicted the outcome of that - Europe 7 1/2, United States 1/2 for a home overall winning margin of 3pt - simply unbelievable!

Stirling University's Graeme Robertson and David Booth both chalked up victories in tight finishes. Booth, from Rotherham, won on the 18th green by two holes against James White while Robertson was a 2 and 1 winner over Derek Ernst.
