ANGLO-SCOT NICOLA LEADS FROM GABRIELLE MACDONALD AT BLAIRGOWRIE

Scottish golf journalist's daughter Nicola Callander wrote her own headlines at Blairgowrie today with an excellent four-under-par round of 69 to lead the Scottish Under-21 girls' stroke-play championship into the final day over the testing Lansdowne course.
Nicola, based in Hertfordshire and a member at Mill Green, improved by four shots on her opening 74 despite bogeying the second and third holes. After that she moved up a gear with birdies at the fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth to turn in 34 (four under par) before parring in until notching a final sixth birdie at the 18th.
Her father Colin entered his 16-year-old, three-handicap daughter  for the recent Scottish U18 girls match-play championship, which meant she was then qualified to play for Scotland and she is in the team for the girls home internationals in South Wales next month.
Callander and Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw) are well clear of the field with one round to play. Gabrielle is a shot off the pace with scores of 73-71 for two-under 144.
Macdonald had even more birdies than the leader - seven - but had double bogeys at the 11th and the short 14th in halves of 35 and 36.
Aberdeen-born Gemma Dryburgh, a student at Tulane University, New Orleans, is on her own in third place on 147 after improving from a 78 to a 69. Her first round included a quadruple bogey 8 and a double bogey at a short hole.
