KARYN DALLAS'S SON ROSS WINS ANGUS COUNTY BOYS' MATCH-PLAY TITLE

By ALEX McKAY
Angus county boys' convener‎
Ross Dallas (Kirriemuir) won the Angus county boys' match-play championship at Carnoustie Buddon on Thursday.
The son of the Kirriemuir Golf Club professional, Karyn Dallas, Ross raced to a three-hole lead after only five holes in the final against Marc Howie (Ballumbie) before Marc turned the deficet into a one-hole lead through 15 with some stunning play.
Ross made a solid birdie at the long 16th to square the match before a late putting lapse from Marc at 17 allowed Ross to go one up again and a half at the 18th secured the title for him.
Ross is coached by his mother who also is coach to the county elite boys' squad. The victory helped erase Ross's dissapointment at losing last year's final over his home course.
A special mention must also go to pint sized
Harry George (Downfield), not long turned 13, for taking Marc Howie the full distance in the semi-final and the other semi-finalist Harry Ogilvie (Monifeith) for defying his 11 handicap by knocking out two much lower handicap players en route to the semi-final.
RESULTSSEMI-FINALSRoss Dallas (Kirriemuir) bt Harry Ogilvie (Monifieth) 6 and 5
Marc Howie (Ballumbie) bt Harry George (Downfield) 2 holes.
FINALDallas bt Howie 1 hole.
