A girl has never won the RandA Junior Open but the odds are very much in favour of this happening this afternoon when the final round of the 2012 event, which has brought more than 120 boys and girls, who were all aged under-16 years on January 1,  from around the world to play at Fairhaven Golf Club, Lytham St Annes, was played.
The second round, which was not completed until near lunchtime today, saw 33 players advance to the final round.
They had all scored 158 and better for the first 36 holes.
Scotland's Junior Vagliano Trophy player Clara Young from North Berwick missed out by a single shot.
ELEVEN strokes clear of the field is 16-year-old Japanese girl Asuka Kashiwabara, a one-handicapper who has covered the first 36 holes in a remarkable 13-under-par 135 with rounds of 66 (eight under) and 69 (five under par).
She has not had a singe bogey yet, using a No 3 wood instead of a driver to hit the fairways instead of landing in the thigh-high rough.
It's a girl 1-2 with 18 holes to play because rising England star Gabriella Cowley from West Essex is in second place with scores of 74 and 72 for 146.
The only other player in the field under par after two rounds is third-placed Italian boy, Renato Paratore with 75 and 72 for 147.
