LESLEY ATKINS SWEEPS THROUGH TO QUARTER-FINALS AT CRAIL

Top seed Lesley Atkins (Gullane), winner of the tournament in 2010, made smooth progress through to the quarter-finals of the Paul Lawrie Foundation Scottish Under-18 girls golf championship at Crail.
She won by 6 and 5 in the first round against Emmae Kennedy (Dumfries and County) and by 6 and 4 in the afternnon against Eva O'Connor (Bothwell Castle).
The second qualifying round had to be abandoned when no play was possible on Wednesday due to flooding of the Craighead course. Today's match-play ties were confined to the second nine holes of the course.
The highest seed to be beaten was the fifth-ranked Heather Munro (Monifieth). She lost by 8 and 7 to Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) who was herself beaten in the second round, 7 and 5, by Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County).
The No 7 seed, Heather Munro (Monifieth), lost to No 28 qualifier, Nicola Robertson (Dunblane New) by 8 and 7. Nicola lost in the afternoon, by 7 and 5, to Rachel Walker (Dumfries and County)
