SHEENA McELROY LEADS IRISH SENIOR WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP

NEWS RELEASE FROM IRISH LADIES GOLF UNION
Defending champion Sheena McElroy, pictured, played superbly given the damp misty air and heavy underfoot conditions and remains on course to secure her third Irish senior women's (close) amateur match-play championship in a row.
Challengers for the title, Helen Jones (Strabane) admitted to striking the ball well in defeating Marie Igoe (Dun Laoghaire) while Pat Doran also in the top half of the draw secured her place in the last 16 on a long Bunclody course that was playing every inch of it.
Top seeds in the bottom half of the draw safely through include Violet McBride (Belvoir Park) and Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna).
