YOUNG MONIFIETH PLAYER LEADS AT BLAIRGOWRIE

By COLIN FARQUHARSON Colin@scottishgolfview.com  Jemma Chalmers (Monifieth), one of the bright young prospects in the Angus team that has won its way through to the Scottish county finals, underlined her individual class with a three-under-par round of 71 at  Blairgowrie Rosemount today to earn top seeding for the match-play stages of  the North of Scotland women's amateur championship. In showery weather and over a very wet course playing its full length, 19-year-old Jemma (pictured above) birdied the first, fourth, sixth, 16th and 17th in halves of 34 (two under par) and 37 (one under). She had bogeys at the third and 13th. No 2 seed is Perth and Kinross youngster, Emily Aird of the host club with a 73, followed by three players on the 74 mark - another rising Angus star, Jessica Meek (Carnoustie Ladies), who had 71 over the Carnoustie championship links in last week's British women's open amateur championship qualifying rounds, Eilidh Watson (Muckhart) and Kimberley Beveridge (Aboyne). Scottish champion Laura Murray (Alford), who is the holder of the North of Scotland title's Angus Salver, was the sixth best qualifier with a 75. Leading qualifiers for the handicap championship for the Gifford Trophy were Mary Robinson (Murcar Links) (15), Gwen Lambie (Dunkeld and Birnam) (7) and Lynne Tough (Newmachar) (7) all with net 74s.
