Nine of the 12 Scottish entries survived the halfway cut in the British women's open amateur stroke-play golf championship at Shandon Park Golf Club, Belfast today
After a day when 15-year-old North Berwick player, Clara Young, had her first hole in one, the leading Scot in 10th place among the 40 qualifiers, nine shots behind surprise leader Sarah-Jane Boyd from Cornwall, is Cragielaw's Jane Turner.
Turner eliminated the triple and double bogeys that dragged her down in the first round and shot a 75 for 151. She had no birdies but 15 pars and bogeys only at the first, fourth and 10th underlined her steadiness.
Eilidh Briggs (Kilmacolm) improved from an 80 to a 72 within 24 hours and is joint 11th with Alyson McKechin (Elderslie) on 152. After a birdie-less first day, last years Scottish U18 girls champion had four of them within the space of nine holes from the ninth to the 17th.
McKechin had a 75, an improvement of two strokes.
Clara Young holed out with a seven-iron at the 140yd 10th and the Shandon Park club are planning a special presentation to her at the LGU prizegiving.
Young had taken 42 shots to reach the turn but she will remember her first hole in one for the rest of her golfing life. It helped her cover the inward half in two-under 33 for a round of 75, four better than Thursday.
Clara shares the 154 mark with former Scottish champion Kelsey MacDonald (Nairn Dunbar) who had a second-round 76 after struggling to the turn in 41.
Scottish champion Laura Murray (Alford) and Alyth's Jacqueline Sneddon made the cut with nothing to spare on 161. Sneddon's 76 was nine shots better than her first round. Murray's biggest asset - her length off the tee - is letting her down at the moment because she is not hitting it straight enough on the treelined fairways.
Laura had a 79 for 161
Grantown on Spey's Hannah McCook missed the cut by one with a 77 for 162.
Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie Ladies) (82 for 165) and Iona Stephen (Ranfurly Castle) (84 for 166) were the others for whom the tournament is over.
Truro's 20 year old Sarah-Jane Boyd (73 for 142) leads by two from Helen Holm Trophy winner and Curtis Cup player Amy Boulden (Conwy) and Norfolk 16 year old Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer)
