DUMFRIES YOUNGSTERS WIN SCOTS MIXED FOURS

New Scotland cap Rachel Walker, pictured above, and Dumfries and County GC clubmate Connor Syme, the Scottish schoolboys champion, won the Scottish open amateur mixed foursomes tournament over a very wet course at Dunblane New GC today. The teenagers'  round of 75 in the heavy underfoot conditions won them the title by one stroke from Cameron and Jillian Farrell (Cardross) with another Cardross pairing, Graham Allan and former Scotland international Claire Hargan, third on 77. The Glenbervie partnership of Greg Nicoll and Alison Goodwin completed the scratch prizelist in fourth place with a 78. Ian Dickson (Gullane) and Sandra Dickson (Mortonhall) had the best net score of 68 off 11 of a combined handicap. David and Rachel McClelland (Milngavie) were runners-up on 68.5 off 13.5. Muckhart's Hugh Cowbrough and Kathleen Norris also had a net score of 68.5 off 10.5 but were placed third on a card countback. A total of 28 couples took part.
