SCOTLAND TEAM FOR BOYS' HOME INTERNATIONALS NAMED
NEWS RELEASE FROM THE SGU
Scotland’s
three national champions at age group level will lead the nation’s bid
to land a first boys’ home internationals title since 2006 at County
Louth in Ireland next week (August 7-9).
Paul
Lawrie Foundation Scottish boys' match-play champion Craig Howie (Peebles), Golf
Data Lab Scottish youths winner Ewan Scott (St Andrews) and Dumfries and
County’s Greig Marchbank, the recently-crowned Stephen Gallacher
Foundation Scottish U18 stroke-play winner, headline the side, featuring the top 11
ranked players in this season’s Scottish Hydro SGU boys' order of merit.
Blairgowrie’s
Bradley Neil, who played a key role in the Perth and Kinross side
that lifted the Moneygate Scottish area team championship and claimed
individual success in the Under-16 section at the Sir Henry Cooper
Junior Masters, is also included, along with Alva’s Lawrence Allan,
winner of the last Junior Tour event of the season at Rowallan Castle.
There
are debuts for Scottish boys' championship semi-finalist Alan Waugh
(Cowglen), Kirkcaldy’s Ryan Walsh and Jamie Savage (Cawder), another
victor on the Junior Tour this season at The Roxburghe.
Bearsden’s
Ewen Ferguson has earned a place in the team following his runner-up
finish in the boys' stroke play at Cardross and victory in the Munster boys' championship last month.
Elderslie’s Alasdair McDougall and Anthony
Blaney of Liberton, consistent performers over the season, will also
line up against England, Ireland and Wales in the annual four nations'
battle.
County
Louth will provide an excellent challenge for the players, having been
the venue for Shane Lowry’s famous win as an amateur in the 2009 Irish
Open, with England defending the title they captured at Royal St David’s
last August.
Chairman
of Selection Barrie Douglas, who will captain the team in Ireland,
said: “We have a strong side bolstered by the three national champions
and boys who are proven winners on the Scottish circuit.
“All
the players selected for the team have all shown great form during this
season and if they can display that form collectively in Ireland then
we have an excellent chance of winning.”
