COUSINS' REPEAT WIN IN FATHER AND DAUGHTER TOURNAMENT

REPORT BY SALLY ABELL
It was a repeat performance for father and daughter team Ian Hunter and Sarah Cousins in Oxfordshire this weekend.
The pair, who are members of Silverdale Golf Club in Lancashire, retained the national Fathers and Daughters title they won last year at Tadmarton Heath Golf Club near Banbury on Saturday.
Ian, who plays off 5, and Lancashire County player Sarah, a one-handicapper, carded a gross 83 in the morning and 36 in the afternoon for a total score of 119 to lift the scratch prize in this 27-hole foursomes medal.
That put them one shot clear of runners up Neil and Leanne Martin, from Woolaton Park and two ahead of Beeston Fields pair Ian and Emma Newlove.
“It was a big shock to win again,” said Ian, who thought their chances might have disappeared on the 9th when they lost two balls and carded an 8.
“But we played really well in the afternoon and just did enough. The course was superb and we will certainly be back again next year.”
Thirty eight pairs, including Martin O’Neill, the manager of Premier League team Sunderland, and his daughter Alana, took part in the Fathers and Daughters, being staged for a second year. Handicaps ranged  from 1 to 33 and ages from 11 to 80!
