HEATHER MACRAE NOW FIRST RESERVE AT HOYLAKE
Heather MacRae might still make it into the Ricoh Women's British Open championship field - despite losing an extended play-off at Caldy GC at 8am Tuesday morning to Sweden's Louise Larsson for the first alternate spot.
Louise has been called up into the field following the withdrawal of Numa Gulyanamitta (United States) due to visa difficulties.
So Heather is now the No 1 standby to fill any space that is vacated by a player. It could be today. It could be tomorrow, right up until the last player tees off in the first round.
But the Gleneagles Hotel player from Dunblane has to be ready, willing and able to slot into the field.
Play-offs have played a significant part in MacRae's golfing career. She won one at Nairn Golf Club in 2006 to be crowned the women's British open amateur stroke-play champion.
Heather was due to play a practice round over the course at 1pm today. Playing partners? Louise Larsson and Caroline Hedwall.
